First, I need to say that I never attended Glenbard, which is what it was called back in 1958, the year that our family packed up, drove down Lincoln Ave. to Route 66, turned right, and didn’t stop until we were in Santa Monica.  If we had not moved I would have been in the class of ’65.  We moved to Glen Ellyn when I was in the third grade and we moved out on the 27th of September, 1958.  I remember the date because the next day, while on the road, I turned eleven.  I left behind three best friends, Frank Chambers, Dave Evans and Pete Harvey.  Peter’s family moved to Waukegan a year or two after we moved but Frank and Dave went to Glenbard.  Some others I remember are Doug Buethe, Donald Irving, Sally Lincoln, Laurie Anderson, Bonnie Foster and especially Gail Simmons.   As for me, our family settled in Pacific Palisades and I attended Palisades High, graduating in ’65.  I got a degree in mechanical engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, got a job with Hughes Aircraft Co. where I worked my way into designing high voltage power supplies (up to 22kV) for communication and surveillance satellites plus many deep space probes.   I retired a few months ago and am busy working with classic cars and 3D printing.     When I was hired at Hughes I moved to Redondo Beach where I lived for 35 years and then moved to Rancho Palos Verdes where I live now.  I’ve been very active in long distance running during and since high school and still compete regularly.  Between walking the dog and running I still get in at least 60 miles a week.   I am the webmaster for the site for our high school class, PALI65.COM.  It has been static for awhile but in a few weeks I will be adding new content as we get closer to out 50th reunion.  The site has become redundant with the advent of all the new media on the web but I’ve agreed to keep it going.  I have a short story about a return trip to Glen Ellyn that I wrote in 1989...   http://www.pali65.com/Pali65/Glen_Ellyn_Story_P1.html

I can only imagine how much fun you all are having at this 45th Reunion and how lucky you are to be there enjoying a stroll down memory lane while making more memories with old classmates.  We had our first snow this morning which made me laugh as my husband and I headed down to our local coffee shop.  Our daughter Adriane (29) was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma last July and we have been very busy caring for her and I now have a small apartment  near where she lives and works in Asheville.  We remain very optimistic.
Warm regards to 1965 Hilltoppers.  Cheers,

As the years pass by, it seems my earliest years are more often in my thoughts.  I appreciate the efforts that many have made in keeping these memories alive.  My best to all and hope to see as many as possible on our 65th birthday.

I often think of this wonderful high school and Glen Ellyn and consider it my hometown tho I had to move my Senior year to Florida.  The names and faces are uncannily familiar after all these years and it surprised & saddened me to read the memorials

Good morning, Class of 65 Reuniters!

Thank you once again for making a spouse feel welcome at a Hilltoppers gig.  The good vibes in the room at Arrowhead last night cannot be arranged in advance.  They just happen when the chemistry is right and the stars are aligned.  Still, Jim and Marji Pehta managed to provide the opportunity for the good times to roll.  Dick is fortunate to have many good memories from high school, and so much fun getting together with old friends and new at each reunion.

See you all at the 50th.

Peggy Lami
